A tip is optional and customs vary. Check whether a service charge is already included before adding a tip.

Before you pay

Check the bill, then the tip.

A tip is optional and customs differ. The calculator does one job: it applies your chosen percentage and splits the result. It does not decide what is appropriate.

• Check for an automatic gratuity or service charge.

• Confirm whether you are tipping on the pre-tax or post-tax amount.

• Agree on the split before adding a tip if the group is large.

• Rounding up makes cash simpler but adds to the tip.

How much should I tip?

Tipping customs vary by country, service and setting. In US restaurants, 15–20% is a common range for table service, but there is no single correct amount. Check the bill first for an automatic service charge.

Does the calculator include tax in the tip?

It uses whatever bill amount you enter. If you prefer to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, enter that subtotal instead of the final total.

How does rounding up work?

When you turn on rounding, the total is raised to the next whole dollar and the extra amount is added to the tip. This makes cash payment simpler and slightly increases the tip.

Can I split the bill unevenly?

This calculator splits the total evenly. For uneven shares, calculate each person's portion separately or agree on amounts before using the total.

Is a service charge the same as a tip?

No. A service charge is usually added automatically and may or may not go to staff. A tip is a separate, optional amount. Read the bill carefully to avoid paying twice.

Is the calculator free and private?

Yes. It needs no account and runs entirely in your browser. The amounts you enter are not sent to simplytools.us or any third party.
