Utilities · Encoding

Make a URL safe to share.

Percent-encode or decode a query value or a full URL, with a clear error when the input is malformed.

Text to transform

Percent-encoding keeps reserved characters safe in a URL.

Scope

Component mode escapes / ? & = and other reserved characters. Full URL mode keeps its structure readable.

Result

Encoding is reversible. It does not encrypt or hide the content.

Good to know

The result is a guide, not a guarantee.

This calculator runs entirely in your browser. Check the assumptions, keep the inputs realistic, and use the result as a starting point for a decision.

Percent encoding is not encryption. Do not put passwords or private data in a URL.

What is the difference between component and full URL mode?

Component mode escapes reserved characters such as /, ?, & and =, which is right for a single query value. Full URL mode keeps the URL structure readable while encoding spaces and unsafe characters.

Why does decoding sometimes fail?

A percent sign must be followed by two hexadecimal digits. Text that was not encoded, or was cut off, can produce an invalid sequence. The tool reports that instead of guessing.

Is encoding the same as encryption?

No. Percent encoding is reversible and hides nothing. Anyone can decode it. Use encryption or a secure channel for sensitive data.

Does the tool send my URL anywhere?

No. Encoding and decoding happen in your browser. The input is not transmitted or stored.
