Utilities · calling codes
Phone and area code lookup.
Find a country calling code, look up a US or Canadian area code, and format or validate a number without sending it anywhere.
Country and phone number
Search a country, then format or validate a number. The number is parsed locally.

Area code lookup
US and Canadian NANP codes, 420 in the bundled list.
Country data and area codes
Country names, flags and calling codes come from countries.dev. US data derived from the MIT-licensed areacodes package; Canadian NPA assignments from NANPA public allocations. Snapshot: October 2026.
Overlay codes change over time. If a code is missing, check the official NANPA assignment rather than assuming it is unused.
Good to know
The result is a guide, not a guarantee.
This calculator runs entirely in your browser. Check the assumptions, keep the inputs realistic, and use the result as a starting point for a decision.
Area codes identify where a number was assigned, not where a person is now. Number portability and overlays can make an old code misleading.
What can I look up here?
You can find a country's international calling code, its capital and region, and look up US and Canadian NANP area codes. The tool also formats and validates a phone number and shows its country and area code.
Where does the data come from?
Country names, flags and calling codes come from the free countries.dev API. US area codes use the MIT-licensed areacodes dataset, and Canadian area-code assignments follow NANPA public allocations. Phone parsing uses libphonenumber metadata.
Is my phone number sent anywhere?
No. The number is parsed and formatted in your browser. The only network request is for the country list; the number you type is not included in it.
Why is an area code missing from the lookup?
The area-code list is a bundled snapshot, and new overlay codes are added over time. A missing code may be a recent overlay, an unassigned code, or outside the North American Numbering Plan. Check the official NANPA assignment for the current status.
Does the area code tell me exactly where someone is?
No. An area code identifies the numbering plan area where a number was assigned, not the person's current location. Mobile numbers can be used far from their original area, and number portability means the original code may no longer match the carrier or region.
Can it tell whether a number is mobile or landline?
Sometimes. The parser reports the number type when the metadata supports it, but portability and local number rules make that estimate unreliable. Do not use it for routing or compliance decisions.
Which countries have area-code-to-region lookup?
Only the United States and Canada in this version. For other countries, the tool still shows the country calling code and can format or validate the number, but it does not map local area codes to a region.
